Market Overview

Nowadays in the Financial Risk Management (FRM) market, the major institutions rate large corporate borrowers or countries. In most cases, these rating agencies rely on publicly available information that is evaluated quantitatively as well as qualitatively by including macroeconomic indicators and political factors. There is a range of other types of intermediaries that can be found in credit markets: credit reporting agencies, public credit registries, and many others. Credit reporting agencies own big shares of worldwide market while only few European players offer services beyond continental borders and they are mainly data or information providers, confirming the national imprint of European FRM solutions.

In the Internationalisation area, economic and political risk information, demographic and socio-cultural information, company and country reports, are usually provided by eGovernment Specialised Agencies (e.g. Ministries of Economic Affairs) and Internationalisation Information Providers: they provide data on countries and companies as well as predictive information such as politic risk, currency risk and so on.

Market access and financial support information services and business development information services are mainly supplied by players like import/export agencies. The type of information provided relates to contracts, to available funds to enter in a foreign market, to payment procedures or credit rating as well as reporting agencies supplying information on foreign enterprises and partner creditworthiness and on possible investment evaluations. A major drawback for enterprises is that the price of this type of highly-customised service is often prohibitive.

In the IT Operational Risk market it is difficult to identify a real leader because these kind of services are usually provided by consultancy agencies or by software houses offering specific and restricted solutions.
